Dr. Artemio Garcia Jr., PhD, LPC
Licensed Psychologist

Director

My name is Dr. Artemio Garcia Jr., and I am the Director of Garcia's Family Wellness Clinic, LLC (GFWC).

I utilize my personal experience to enhance my therapeutic approach when working with my clients. I am a Bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Psychologist. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 14 years now and I am a published author in the field of General Psychology. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish, a Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance, and a PhD in Psychology, specializing in General Psychology and completed a pre and post-Doctoral Internship and Fellowship in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology Across Lifespan; otherwise known as Clinical General Psychology.

This means, like a Primary Care Doctor or Pediatrician, who do a little of a WHOLE LOT, I am also a Generalist focusing on not just one area of an individual, but many areas across all ages and diagnoses; however, unlike a Primary Care Doctor or Pediatrician, in Texas; Psychologists do not prescribe medications and neither do I.

However, we do inform your Prescribers, with your consent, by completing extensive Evaluations over several hours in a comfortable environment that is cozy and warm so that we get to know the real you. And so, if you do need medication for your mental health; they make the best-informed decision and not rush through it in 10 or 15 minutes from a regular follow up. In fact, most Prescribers prefer to refer you for an evaluation often, so that they can provide you the best care possible.

A little about me:

My spouse and I were previous Foster Parent and Respite Provider who worked with many children and family members who have had to deal with a great amount of trauma in their past. And as such we have had a range of experience while being foster parents to 13 children in Bexar county and the surrounding area and adopting three amazing children, with three amazing CAPABLE ABILITIES they were gifted with Autism; each unique with their own super power.

My experience ranges from being a Middle School Spanish Teacher, a Children and Family counselor, Crisis Counselor, to a professor in Higher Education, Clinical Trainer, and Clinical Field Supervisor. I am passionate in my work as a counselor with children and adults who are experiencing issues with ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, and many other mental health disorders. I am trained in various interviewing techniques when assessing patients, including Motivational Interviewing and Person-Centered Thinking.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken in order to get to know me. It would be my pleasure to assist you or your family with your evaluation needs.

I am also part of the following Professional Affiliations:

  • Texas Counseling Association (TCA)

  • Bexar County Psychological Association

  • APA Division One: The Society for General Psychology

  • Texas Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling
