Dr. Carrie George
My name is Dr. Carrie George and I am a Licensed Psychologist (LP) and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) in the state of Texas. I am a native San Antonian with family and friends locally and in the Austin area. My parents also retired from the US Air Force and Army and I am proud to support the military members of our community. Personally, I love to travel, hike, watch movies, and care for my furry friends.
Regarding my background, I have 25 years’ experience in the provision of psychological services for children, adolescents, and families. While initially an Art major, became passionate about child psychology. At present, I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Special Education from Southwestern University, a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from St. Mary’s University, and a doctorate in Psychology from Texas A&M University. I completed my predoctoral internship in outpatient behavioral health and family therapy at the Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) in Baltimore, MD. My postdoctoral fellowship was in inpatient child and adolescent psychology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Throughout my career I have been fortunate to work in a variety of settings. These include public and private schools, inpatient and outpatient facilities, universities, and private practice. In these settings I served individuals with developmental, behavioral, emotional, physical (hematology/oncology), learning, and cognitive disorders.
Clinically, I am an advocate of art and play therapy strategies with children and I typically utilize cognitive-behavioral and family systems strategies for treatment. I particularly enjoy working with young children (ages 1-12) in order to enhance their development and social/emotional health. Parent behavioral and social skills training are areas of specialty along with the assessment of autism spectrum disorders and early childhood trauma.
I am also regularly involved in the supervision of psychology trainees and the education of professionals through continuing workshops.
Thank you for reviewing my bio. I would be delighted to assist your family with your evaluation and therapeutic needs.
